Ad Hoc networks are temporary, multi-hop, center-free networks which are consist of a group of mobile nodes equipped with wireless communication device. It can be used to set up a mobile communication network rapidly in anywhere and at anytime without the support of information network infrastructure. Nodes can move freely and are equal in the network. As a core technology of next generation networks, the applications of Ad Hoc networks are in the field of military, civilian search and rescue, industrial control, mobile commerce and so on. Due to its special characteristics, it has become the hot issues in the field of computer and communications.Network simulation is the necessary and effective tool for researchers in network planning and design. It is to model network behavior by the use of computer technology to construct network topology structure and the realization of the network protocols. It is a technology between computing and experiment, through the establishment of mathematical models of a practical system and run by the same mechanism to simulate dynamic behavior of the physical system. It can access specific network parameters, which can be carried out on the research and analysis of network performance and be used to improve the network performance. In this paper, first, we introduce the purpose of network simulation technology, then several network simulation software are introduced and compared. Considering the scope of application, operating environment of convenience, prices and other factors, OMNET++ is selected as the simulation software to set up simulation platform of wireless Ad Hoc networks in our paper. The operation mechanism of OMNET++ and the mobility framework based on OMNET++ are analyzed. Finally, the wireless network simulation platform is built up and a wireless flooding protocol is simulated at the end of the paper.
