Wireless sensor network is a multiple hops network system organized by a large numberof sensor nodes, that are deployed in monitored area and communicate through low power andlow width of wireless communication. Its purpose is to perceive, collection and processing theinformation of the coverage area and eventually give feedback to the observer. In theenvironmental monitoring, military investigation, health and other areas, it has a wideapplication. Wireless sensor network is being paid more and more attention by academia andindustry.For the traditional computer network, we usually employ simulation and physicalmeasurement to measure the applicability of the network protocol and the algorithm.But for wireless sensor network, its characteristics make physical measurement unfeasiblein many environment. In such circumstances, the computer simulation become the main meansto judge the wireless sensor network. Through the simulation, researchers can research wirelesssensor network in a controlled environment, observing unpredictable interference caused byinteraction between the nodes and the influence of the channel transmission, reducing themaintenance work for wireless sensor network. Accurate and efficient simulation tools areimportant for the development of wireless sensor network, so ,designing and developingeffective simulation is very necessary.OMNet++ is an open source software for network simulation. It is a simulation platformbased on component and modular. OMNeT++ simulation platform provides library anddevelopment tools for researchers, which make the simulation developers can pay moreattention on modeling and designing, without having to concern the implementation of thesimulation. This paper analyzes OMNeT++ simulation platform, including OMNeT++simulation principle, class library and using procedures etc. Besides, the simulation platform isimproved according to the characteristics of wireless sensor network in simulation.Compared with other traditional network, wireless sensor network is highly for applicationand has many characteristics, so it hava to consider many new problems in the design. Thispaper research the wireless sensor network simulation basing on the discrete event systems.Finally, in OMNeT++ platform, this paper build the model of wireless sensor network andrealized the simulation system.Based on the previous work, the main research and innovation are as follows:(1)Wsn is highly for application and has many characteristics, such as the huge simulationscale, complicated business model, unstable node state and limited energy, which make the simulation model unsuitable for traditional network model. This paper build the sensor networksimulation model referencing the TCP/IP model and the characteristics of network application.(2)In wireless sensor network, because of the high-density nodes and complex topologystructure, it has to consider the parallel computing of the nodes. In OMNeT++ platform,discrete event simulation mechanism can not effectively realize the concurrency. Based onOMNeT++ discrete event simulation, the internal data structure and its realization mechanismare improved. So OMNeT++ can realize the distribution of nodes more efficiently.(3)This paper puts forward with a variety of Wireless channel model with attenuationmechanism. According to some experimental data of the Wireless sensor network channel, theattenuation of channel include path loss, random interference loss and node mobile loss.(4)Energy consumption must be considered in Wireless sensor network simulation. In thispaper, the energy management module is designed based on OMNeT++ platform. At runtime ofthe simulation, since most other modules need to communicate with the energy managementmodule which the message passing method is not very efficient, so some functions of theresource manager are directly called.(5)In this paper, the classic Leach routing algorithm is simulated and the simulation data isgotten after the simulation experiment. The Wireless sensor network simulation system whichis put forward by this paper can be proved correct and effective by this experiment.
