With the progress of information technology, the functions of cell phone have changed a lot. A cell phone which was the one used only for communication now is not only a tool for correspondence but also for entertainment. The appearance of smart-phone with module for communication and module for application contributes much to the development of the communication. The new functions and services challenge the design of cell phone. The previously traditional phones with single programming system for manipulation or multitask shifting system can not satisfy the new requirements. Thus, the update on the software system of cell phone is required. The embedded operating system and efficient programming model as a key approach for reuse in software should be applied in phone software system. This paper mainly concerns Elastos and CAR which satisfy these requirements and are complementary to each other.Device driver as a key model in phone software system is responsible for the performance of the whole software system. More new devices are demanded to carry out new functions and these devices function simultaneously and frequently. That is to say the Device driver is decisive in the performance of the software system of phone. Approaches of designing a proficient device driver are explored in the paper and it is pointed that Elastos with the application of CAR satisfy the requirement.The paper starts with the introductions of Elastos and CAR, and normal hardware & software systems of cell phone are analyzed. Based on the previous discussions, the position of device driver in the system and its relationship with the other modules are illustrated, with the exploration of its construction. The CAR is applied in the device driver system, which is exemplified by the camera driver. Details of working component-oriented camera driver and the test procedures of the module are demonstrated. The paper is ended with analysis of results and findings and some proposals on this issue.
