The remote monitoring system is very important in the field of environmental protection. The realization of the traditional remote monitoring system is usually that we construct or hire dedicated communication network. Therefore, not only the investment but also the maintenance is expensive. In addition, it makes the environmental management of small and medium enterprises ineffectively. In this thesis a remote monitoring system based on GPRS is presented for environmental monitoring and management.The research on the remote monitoring system based on GPRS is the work that involved in an integrated application of multi-science technology, such as GPRS communication, internet, micro-electronics, computer and database techniques, sensor, and the physical model optimization design, etc.In this thesis, the GPRS technology and its network architecture and the communication principle are briefly introduced firstly. Then the GPRS agreement model, the data transmission way, and its potential applications in remote monitoring are described. Afterwards, the developed system is presented. The whole system can be divided in principle into three parts, including center monitoring subsystem, communications subsystem and data acquisition subsystem. Finally the system hardware designing based on AT89C52 MCU and MC35 and the system software designing including the center monitoring software, data switch software and data acquisition system are introduced in detail. In the last part of the thesis, the main work carried on for developing the remote monitoring system based on GPRS is summarized. Moreover, the application of the system, and the proposed further research work are also presented..
