A Case Study On The Roles Of Educational Functions Of Library In Independent Colleges Of Universities

Independent institute, as the characteristic product of modern higher education in our country, is playing a more and more important role in current higher education, and its construction is also more and more standardized. However, as an important place of study for teachers and students in the independent institute, library, along with social development and the changes in education demand, has all carried on a series of transformations from working routines to service orientation and measures. One of the social functions of library is education, from ancient times to the present, this educational function has gone through such a historical process as from "one when its roles limitedly played" to "one when its roles brought into full play". This process displays the importance of and the social demand for the educational functions of library.In this paper, the author makes a research into the educational functions of library in the independent institute, making a case study on the library in Yucai College of Southwest University mainly by means of documentation, questionnaire investigation, case analysis and so on. This research altogether consists of four parts: PartⅠIntroduction, analyzes the reasons why such a topic should be chosen; presents the research the relevant achievements done by others in the past, clarifies several research concepts in this research, explains the research mentality and the methods; PartⅡthe focus of this research, starts mainly from the real environment in which the educational functions of library in Yucai College of Southwest University are exerted, emphatically analyzes the seven aspects such as its subsidiary professional functions of education,ideological and political functions of education and its educational functions at leisure time, elaborates the present condition of the exertion of its educational functions; PartⅢ, the last but one, analyzes the problems existing in the process of the exertions of its educational functions from the following points of view: ideas for the management of library, sources of funds, service orientation and its readers, and so on; Part IV, last but not least, to the series problems existing in the exertions of its educational functions, puts forward six pieces of advice as to how to enhance the exertion of the educational functions of library in Yucai College of Southwest University.
