Along with the fast development of the beer/beverage industry, the beer/beverage production technology unceasingly renews and the production scale unceasingly expands. At present most beer factories in our country are developing their production line to be capable of more than 40,000 bottles per hour. Under this kind of speed, the manual inspection to the empty bottles becomes extraordinary difficult. On-line empty bottle inspection equipments are urgently needed. The on-line high speed intelligent empty bottle inspection system, based on image processing and the machine vision technology, can inspect the empty bottles entirely and reject the failed bottles accurately with high speed and high accuracy.This system applied the machine vision to the beer empty bottle inspection, used the CCD camera, used the reasonable light source, gathered images with optics principle, carried on algorithms such as filter, localization, enhancement, division to process the images, and finally carried on the pattern recognition according to the flaw gray scale value difference. Combined with PLC and the computer, it was applied to the beer production line, formed the on-line high speed intelligent empty bottle inspection system, and expanded its software, caused it to contain the image processing, the human machine interface, the database management, the fault diagnosis and so on.The human machine interface of the system was developed using the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 technology, the control section using Germany Siemens PLC, the light source using American Ai(Advanced illumination) LED light source, the image gathering and processing using Canadian DALSA Corporation Sherlock software as assistant tools, and the communication among each part was realized through ordinary Internet network. The whole system was an intelligent equipment including control, machinery, electricity, optics, inspection. To guarantee the harmony among each part under high speed, high accuracy and high stable, there were some problems in the realization process. Based on the foundation of realizing the basic functions, unceasingly optimizes the algorithms and the programs of each part and reduces the running time, to achieve the anticipated running speed and accuracy request.The main work of this paper was as following: 1. The Human-Machine Interface design of the seysterm. 2. Establish the Access database, actualization of the accessing it in the HMI programe. 3. Display images in real time in each inspection unit, like the bottle mouth inspection, the bottle bottom inspection, the bottle side inspection and so on. 4. The communication between the HMI programe and the PLC.This article discusses the development and the application status of domestic and foreign high speed empty bottle inspection technology, introduces the related machine vision and image processing technology, have thoroughly studied the database establishment, and the realization method of the data communication between the human machine interface and the database, PLC and the image processing module. It also analyzed the reason of the question appearing during the topic research process and has given the concrete solution according to the actual situation.
