The modern industry automation production involves various check and measurement. If depend on the manual work, at the time of increasing the huge cost of labor and management, it still can't guarantee zero disfigurement. People combine the speed of computer with the high intelligence and the abstract ability of human vision, which thus become the machine vision.The system applied the machine vision in the empty bottle inspection. The main theory of the system was: using the CCD camera, adopting the reasonable light source, and applying the optical principle, we collected images, then used the filter, orientation, transform and partition algorithms on the images, finally identified the images by the value of gray scale on disfigurement. We combined the PLC with computer, applied it in the beer production line, formed the empty bottle inspector, and expanded the software system, including the image processing, human-machine interface, database management and fault diagnosis.This paper analyzes the machine vision and its value of application in empty bottle inspection first and introduces the system hardware first. The empty bottle inspection includes the inspection of bottle bottom, jaws, wall, infrared ray and high frequency. We process the images and send the result into PLC, then combine the coder with cell switches, finally reject the bad bottle.This system software is mainly divided into two parts: the human machine interface and expert system for fault diagnosing.HMI gives operator the interface to set precision of those inspections, record the rejected bottle numbers and pigeonhole the important data. HMI communicates with PLC through DLL, can read and write the PLC internal data. So we can control rejector through HMI. We use the multithreading in HMI, and the exception process makes HMI stronger.Because this system is an equipment gathered the control,machine, electricity,optics, in the early even mature editions it may meet the different problems. A perfect fault diagnosis system is very important. The software system makes use of the artificial intelligence, adopts the B/S structure and maintains the inspection via internet.
