Research On CMMI-based Software Outsourcing Project Management

As an emerging industry, software outsourcing develops rapidly, but it is a short time, software development environment is more and more complex and the scale of project is more and more large,it makes lots of project can not be finished on time,even be canceled. There are lots of reasons. The most important one is the low level of project management. Although some methods of project management are brought by some companies,but there are shortcomings in those methods, moreover they just copy the experience of foreign companies,so the limitations are obvious.CMMI is the international popular criterion of software process improvement,and it supplies a effective guide framework for improving the level of project management of software companies constantly,but CMMI just is a framework and gives no specific knowledge and methods,the implementation of CMMI depends on the environment of the management and the project.This paper researches on the project management of outsourcing companies and uses CMMI as the criterion of project management and software process improvement, combining the features of the companies of our country to build the methods of project management and software process improvement.Firstly,the advantages and disadvantages of all the existing methos of project management for software outsourcing are analyzed,pointing out none of those methos can provide the whole solution;Secondly,CMMI is analyzed,including the way of expression and levels;Then,the methods of the software process improvement based on CMMI are brought up and the total framework,hierarchy and some important key process areas are analyzed,including requirement management,configuration management,quality management and risk management;Finally,the real project which author joined in is analyzed and the methods are proved to be used in real.The research of this paper provides useful references for improving the level and successful probability of project management and software process improvement which are ,it also advances the research on CMMI and has reference value to the research of CMMI.
