Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a type of self-organized network formed by many sensor nodes through wireless communication, which realizes data collection, processing and transmission. With integrated technology of sensor, information and network communication, WSN is a new field of modern information technology, what's more, it is appraised as one of the twenty-one most influential technology of this century. At the same time, ZigBee technology comes into being and becomes strong support of WSN for its outstanding features such as close-up, low-power, low-cost and low complexity. As the physical carrier of WSN, large number of different sensor nodes face with one of the key issues that how to achieve intelligent access, the IEEE1451 standard, which arms to realize the interface specification for sensor network, provides a reference. The main task of this paper is to design smart sensor nodes, and to realize wireless communication based on ZigBee as well as data management.This article provides an overview about the development of smart sensor technology and IEEE 1451 standard which is related to the problem of interface standardization for smart sensor network, then, a brief introduction of WSN and ZigBee technology is given. On this basis, the article proposes the design program of wireless smart sensor node based on ZigBee, selects TSZ-CC2430 suite to implement hardware and software of the node, realizes intelligent identification by using of electronic data sheet which refers to IEEE1451, designs data formats for wireless communications so as to expand the functions of sensor nodes. Finally, wireless communication is implemented based on the protocol stack of MSSTATE_LRWPAN, and server is designed for data processing and network management.As a result, three types of smart sensor nodes are implemented, include temperature and humidity, air pressure, and acceleration. Operation mode is divided into active mode, triggered mode, idle mode and controller mode, which could be set remotely. 49 sensor nodes are completed, most of which are nodes of temperature and humidity, ZigBee cluster-tree network is built, monitoring and controlling function is realized by server. Finally, test items such as working life, distance of single jump, network communication and rate are performed, which verify the design program, and provide reference for the design of wireless smart sensor node and practical applications of sensor network.
