Engineering drawing is considered as the language of engineering and technological research field. The drawing is one of the most important tools for engineers during the process of designing & manufacturing. The drawing modules of all commercial CAD systems provide a valid tool for the design and manufacturing, but they are still not efficient enough in following aspects. Firstly, the time cost in the generation of the drawing sheet of a specified 3D mould nearly makes up 50% of the design cycle or more. Secondly, it is just a general platform for all kind of users and hard to satisfy a special user's localized and specialized needs. Lastly, the process of dealing with dimension, title panel and part list is very complex. All of these factors are seriously making the design work slowdown and have a bad effect on production efficiency.Aiming at the problems mentioned above, a special module of automatic drawing and dimensioning for the design and manufacturing of electrodes is developed according to the user requirements. By using configurable template, the title bar and drawing border can be loaded automatically and edited interactively based on the company's standardization and requirements. Upon the part information model, the geometric information and annotation information of a part are integrated together, and then the dimension and annotation information can be generated automatically by feature extraction.Based on the research achievements mentioned above, an automatic drawing and dimensioning module which is integrated with an electrode design system of KONKA Company is implemented upon the UG 16.0, and has been successfully applied in the company.
