As an important basic work for conservation and restoration of cultural relics, archaeological drawing is still mainly drawn by manual measurement. Realize archaeological drawing automation through the computer-aided technology, it not only can improve the efficiency of archaeological drawing and drawing accuracy, but also can reduce workload and labor intensity of archaeological drawing workers. This paper proposes an automated method for archaeology drawing based on 3D model of cultural relics, and implements a computer-aided system for archaeology drawing. The main research items are listed as follows:1) Using three-dimensional laser scanning technology to obtain the triangular grid data of cultural object, this research focuses on studies of three pretreatment technologies including noises removal, holes filling and simplification of the triangular grid data.2) Research on sharpening technology and feature line extraction technology of cultural relics, and propose a planar line drawing method based on the 3D model partial sharpening. This method not only can draw enough details, but also can obtain better drawing effect of triangular mesh model with rich noises.3) Research on cutaway view and contour lines drawing method of cultural relics. Propose a cutaway view and contour lines drawing method based on cutting planar. This method is use of the continuity of contour profile to improve the rendering speed. After the experiment it testifies that lines are smooth, drawing results are accurate.4) For the actual requirements of archaeological drawing process to measure the size of cultural relics, studies the measurement method of straight-line distance and surface distance between any two points of 3D model through the way of interaction. We give a simple measurement of surface distance based on the target approximation method. The accuracy of measurement result can reach millimeter level, and the measurement result can be applied to archaeological drawings, so that archaeological drawing is more standard and complete. 5) Base on the studied algorithms and combine with the actual project, design and implement a computer-aided system for archaeology drawing. It will have a certain application value in the field of heritage conservation.
