Computer interpretation of engineering drawing is an intersecting subject of engineering graphics, cognitive science, computer vision and computer information processing technology. The key of engineering drawing interpretation is to get the relevant information of drawing. Considering the dispersity, covertness and fuzziness of drawing information, we propose a layered interpretation technology for engineering drawing based on geometry complexity. This technology uses layered organization of drawing information and primitive layered recognition based on the integration of drawing information to get the entity.In chapter 1, the development of engineering drawing interpretation is reviewed, the existing problems are analyzed, and then the content of this paper is introduced.In chapter 2, at first we introduce the composition of drawing information. Then, propose a new concept of geometry complexity which denotes the number of shape character in drawing information. Finally, the model of layered interpretation for engineering drawing is presented.In chapter 3. layered organization technology for drawing information is introduced. The graphic information and dimension information that compose the drawing information are organized in three layers. The first one is the organizing of the discrete information. The second one is the organizing of the information in the same view. The last one is the organizing of the information in the different views. Meanwhile, pre-processing technology of engineering drawing is discussed.In chapter 4, primitive features expression and integration technology of drawing information led by graphics and dimensions are proposed. Then we recognize primitive from integrated drawing information in three layers which are simple primitive, generic primitive and complicated primitive. Simple and generic primitive recognition method led by dimension information and complicated primitive recognition method led by graphic information are discussed in detail.In chapter 5, the prototype system of drawing interpretation is developed, and some examples are given.In chapter 6, the work of this paper is summarized, and the further research work is put forward.
