Compared with the common CPU, RISC do not only simplifies the instruction set but also makes the computer construction simpler and more reasonable. Consequently it increases the work frequency.The target of this research subject is to develop an 8-bit micro controller with ASIC traditional design flow,which makes use of the microchip instruction set and compatible with PIC16F676 of Microchip Technology Inc. Our ultimate goal is to achieve the net list and .did file after DC synthesis for Astro.During the design, the system architecture and instruction set of PIC16F676 were analyzed firstly ,and then the entire CPU was partitioned with top-down methodology that systematically partition a complex design into smaller functional units that can be designed and verified individually and more easily. We focus on reduce of area and power effect, and look ALU design as a key. We optimize ALU unit and maintain it's function at the same time. After synthesis we simulate the net list.We achieved this object by comprehension of the system architecture, correct partition of the function modules, and effective description of the RTL code of the design.
