When reality shows, a type of TV program, were first made available to the Chinese, they rapidly became popular and quickly become an anticipated portion of every week's entertainment by a large segment of the population.Their great interest in the shows came to an end, however, when in August of 2007 the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT) ended the production of two popular reality shows on the basis that "face-lifting" and "denaturalization" programs were being offered. At the same time, SARFT declared that any shows suspected of having a trend toward violating personal privacy would also be cut off without delay. A further announcement was that China would follow its own path in development of a new reality show.To explore the ramifications of this decision, this essay will use various research methods including material-research, sample-research, and the comparison-method. Aspects of SARFT's decision will be explored and the weaknesses and prospects of China's plan to produce a reality show will be examined while that plan is under gestation.Chapter One will be devoted to a more complete explanation of the action that SARFT has taken in regard to the two popular reality shows. In Chapter Two, attention will be drawn to the new reality show being developed in China in three distinct stages. Chapter Three and Four will respectively outline the weakness in that plan and offer solutions.
