OECD has proposed a new concept of"economy based on knowledge"in 1996, which is a sign of the revolution that the traditional industry economy which needs much raw and processed materials has been replaced by a totally new economy configuration——knowledge economy——which is based on new technology and knowledge. Knowledge has replaced nature resource, capital and labour force to be the basic economic resource and the most important manufacture item. The competition of society has become to competition of knowledge. At the same time, since the development of computer and internet, people have to face much more information than before, but they can't get knowledge from the information effectively. Archives information resource as the carrier of human civilization is full of knowledge, but because of the restriction of time, space and technology, these knowledge has not been fully developed and used, which made the implement of the value of archives is quite slow. Under these backgrounds, doing research in the knowledge service in digital archives to get over the obstacle of theory, discuss the direction of effort and provide guidance to practice is of great meaning.First and theoretically, this research based on the analysis of the necessary and feasibility of the knowledge service in digital archives construct its model of service and method of appraisal, which not only could provide a theoretical foundation to digital archives putting knowledge service in practice, but also means a lot to the modification of the theory system of digital information resource management, and meanwhile, could fetch up the deficiency of current theory research, facilitate the expanding of the research range and the emerge of new point of growth of archives theory. Secondly and practically, this research could provide guidance to digital archives actualizing knowledge service, upgrading their model of service, improving service quality, constructing core competence and fetch up the deficiency of theory guidance in the development of domestic digital archives, and provide significant guidance to the building and development of digital archives. The construction of the appraisal item and method of the digital knowledge service model in this paper provides important reference to digital archives choosing appropriate model, sharing resource and cut the cost.This paper defines the concept of digital archives knowledge service——digital archives based on the targets of users and their circumstance, relying on all kinds of information resource (especially archives information resource) they got, using methods of knowledge finding, accessing, organizing digging and transforming to provide knowledge which contains new intelligence item to users and help them solving problems while enhancing their ability of knowledge accessing and innovating——based on the comprehension of the meaning of knowledge service and digital archives getting by the comparing analysis of relating concept.After that, the paper discusses the necessary of digital archives knowledge service from three different angles: macroscopical, midcosmic and microcosmic, considering that digital archives knowledge service is the certain outcome of human society, the inner request of archives development and the widely needs of users wanted to access knowledge, having solid necessary. Based on this, the paper considers that the concept of knowledge management and sufficient information resource in digital archives provide solid supporting to digital archives to practice knowledge service, and together with the users'needs, information technology and human resource, digital archives knowledge service has feasibility for sure.Since the necessary and feasibility of digital archives knowledge service is for certain, the paper proposes 5 kinds of service model: users self-helping, reference consulting, personality ordering, team serving and on demanding, based on widely reference of the knowledge service of libraries, intelligence service organization and the character of digital archives, to provide some standard mode to digital archives which like to give this kind of service for being chosen. At last, this paper constructs a criteria system of digital archives knowledge service model and appraises each 5 models using fuzzy synthetic appraising method, compares their integrated efficiency quantitatively, posts their character and on what condition they would be appropriate:Users self-helping service model is under the condition that the digital archives can provide great navigation and the users be able to help themselves. It's depth and pertinence is not satisfied and can not keep up with the change of users'needs. But it needs less human resource and cost, which makes it be fit for the digital archives that are small and lack of budget.Reference consulting service model has great authority and depth, but is lack of go-aheadism, at the same time, needs little cost, which makes it be fit for the digital archives that have some foundation and want to raise their service quality.Personality ordering service model has go-aheadism, pertinence, quick reaction and depth of it's service, but need a lot of budget, which makes it be fit for the digital archives that have solid foundation to take.Team serving ordering service model has pertinence, authority, depth and universality, could provide better service content and facilitate the communication, sharing and innovation of knowledge, and be propitious to the growth and development of the organization. But it still needs some modification about the ability of reaction to users'needs, at the same time, it needs a lot cost, which makes it be fit for the digital archives that could afford the risk and have definite developing target and high requirement of their service quality.On demanding service model has great pertinence, authority, depth and universality. It's ability of reaction to users'needs is amazing too. Besides, the go-aheadism, attraction to users and the ability of making benefit of it are all satisfied. It could support the communication, sharing and innovation of knowledge very well, and be propitious to the growth and development of the digital archives. Although it requires some cost, it's still acceptable (thanks to the use of virtual resources and the changeable cost structure). It's a balanced and highly effected knowledge service model which should be the first choice of the digital archives if their infrastructure and condition would be fit.The continuing developing and maturing of the digital knowledge service will surely make great contribution to the achieving of the value of archives and the raising of its impression to people and meet the society's needs for knowledge as well as facilitate the passing, transformation and innovation of knowledge.
