Research On The Function Of Mass Media In Social Development Of Country Area In Western China

The dissertation probes into the function of public communication in the country area of western China, which differs greatly from other country areas in geography,culture and economy. Starting with the analysis of the specialty of public communication in the whole social information system, value of public communication in poverty-stricken area,social information structure and the status of public communication in western country area are discussed as the following. In succession, what public communication contributes to the social development in western country area is summarized. Based on the above mentioned, influences of public communication in the area are analyzed from the following three angles: impacts of inherent concepts,negative effects and stabilization in frontier area, and then reasons of present conflict between media and western country area are found out. Finally, the author tries to put forward some possible solutions to the problem.The great differences between western country area and the other country areas are decentralization in geography,obturation and fragility in economy and the multi-culture in the area. The author holds the view that public communication has some more special meanings in the rural area of western China compared to the other areas, which makes up the lack of communication caused by space distance and spreads modern information to the remote western area, helping contribute to the growth of people's modernity there. Simultaneously, public communication is also the strategic power to maintain stabilization of the nation. On the other hand, it also has some negative effects to the western country area in that in a sense it pricks up estrangements between cities and countries. What's worse, the profound and splendid culture in the western country area is faced up with the danger of being cleared up under the influences of public communication.It is really an adventurous try to study how public communication exists in the rural area of western China macroscopically, which can be probably regarded as the novelty of this dissertation, for the more extensive the subject is, the more difficult it is to master and collect information. There's exiguous comprehensive research on the media function in western country area yet, so the author tries to sort it out as clearly as possible in this dissertation, which might be useful to the relevant research later on. Besides, function of public communication in pasturing and religious area is also paid much attention which is comparatively rare in the previous research and can be regarded as something novel in this dissertation as well.The theoretical significance of this dissertation to the academic research is that the horizon of view in public communication in western exploitation of China can be widened. And the practical meaning of the dissertation is providing with necessary references to the activities of mass media in these areas in the course of realizing the particularities of public communication in these areas. It can also be used as reference to improve efficiency of communication by avoiding unnecessary waste and to scan the whole media policy renewedly.
