There has been a fast development of agricultural informatization process in China since the concept of digital agriculture was presented. As an important research topic in digital agriculture field, agricultural data transmission is undergoing changes in terms of transmission mode.. With the development of information technology and sensor technology, intelligent agricultural machinery such as mobile intelligent platform has been used in agricultural data transmission. Meanwhile, an increasingly maturing technology of self-organizing wireless network characterized by data transmission hop-by-hop without the need of conventional network infrastructure system like wireless broadcasting radio stations has been applied gradually in agricultural data transmission. Under the above mentioned background, this thesis comes out to evaluate the performance of self-organizing routing protocol aimed at providing technology support to digital agricultural wireless data transmission.At present, the main type of wireless data transmission technology used in China's agricultural field is radio station transmission. Wireless data transmission with radio station has the following disadvantages: high cost of hardware, short transmission distance, poor transmission reliability, and restricted network coverage. In this thesis, field data acquisition equipments were integrated into a self-organizing wireless network, which accessed to agricultural monitoring network in the form of terminal network. The collected agricultural information was transmitted on real time basis to remote users hop-by-hop.This thesis first analyzed the current situation of agricultural wireless data transmission technology in terms of .problems existed in conventional wireless transmission and the significance of developing agricultural self-organizing wireless network in this field. Then, technologies relating to self-organizing wireless network were investigated. These analyses provided theoretic and technical basis for the research on the application of self-organizing routing technology in wireless agricultural data transmission. The major research activities in this thesis include establishing a simulation platform for agricultural self-organizing network with the simulation software package NS2, and comparing the performance of table driven routing protocol DSDV to that of on-demand driven routing protocol AODV. The results showed that the table driven routing protocol is more suitable for the management of agricultural information than on-demand driven routing protocol.This thesis mainly involved the following fields: wireless sensor network, self-organizing routing, and network simulation with NS2. The key to the successful operation of mobile Ad Hoc network is self-organizing routing technology. This research will be helpful to the application of mobile Ad Hoc network in agriculture.
