Ad Hoc network is composed of mobil terminal nodes with wireless communication devices, and typically characterized by its temporariness and multi-hop. Because of its dynamic topology, self-organization, multi-hop, without infrastructure features, it is widely used in military areas, disatster site and other occasions. The constantly changing topology of Ad Hoc, making routing protocols as the key factors affecting the operation. Therefore, research of routing protocols becomes a hot spot of the research of Ad Hoc networks. This paper firstly introduces the research background and significance, research present situation, Ad Hoc network characteristics and application domain. Then the classical Ad Hoc network routing protocols are analyzed and compare the DSDV, DSR, and AODV. Simulation of the three routing protocols is done in NS-2. Pacekt delivery ratio, norm routing load and average end-to-end delay three main parameters are selected to compare them performance, gives the simulation results in different simulation scenations. Finally, a new strategy based on energy improvement of AODV is proposed for traditional shortcomings. The results in NS-2 show that packet delivery ratio and norm routing load are improved, especially in a variety of environments, the time to live is extended.
