The wireless sensor network is based on the computing technology, communicationand sensors technology. The wireless sensor network is a rising next generation network.Advance in MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanism), SOC (System on Chip) and WirelessCommunication has made the (Wireless Sensor Network). As a novel informationacquiring and process technology, compared to other traditional network, the WirelessSensor Network (WSN) pays more attention to the information-transport. Potentialapplications of wireless sensor networks span a widely spectrum from commercial tomanufacturing industry, from battlefield monitoring to space research. The WSN is atypical application of the Ad Hoc network, but it is different form the traditional Ad Hocnetwork. The WSN possesses more panel points, the networks' topology constructionsare full of variation, the panels points are prone to lose efficacy, the WSN panels points'power are limited. On account of these, some achievements in scientific research can notbe used in the WSN application field. In spite of that, most of the achievements inscientific research of the Ad Hoc network can be used in the WSN, for example, theprotocols of network layer, such as the AODV (Ad Hoc On-demand Vector routing)protocol and the DSDV (Destination Sequenced Distance Vector) protocol, of the Ad Hocare fit to the WSN network layer. This paper starts from the construction and system of the wireless sensor network, instruct the characters of the WSN, the recent hot points on the WSN research field andthe application of WSN. Then describe several kinds of wireless network routingprotocols, such as the AODV (Ad Hoc On-demand Vector routing) protocol and theDSDV (Destination Sequenced Distance Vector) protocol. Also describe one of Ad hocrouting protocol, the AODV routing and the applications of the AODV routing. Nextdescribe, based on the Network Simulator 2 (NS-2), how to simulate and analyze theAODV routing and how to analyze the results of the simulation record. In the last chapter, with a model of the battle field, analyze the performance (include the delay of end-to-end,the throughput of network, the average hops of end -to-end, the total time of buildingroute,) of the NSW. Based the result of the simulate, we can see the average delay ofnodes and the average hops between nodes are affected by the environment.
