It will take a long time to change from the existing analog television to digital television system, so a kind of conversion device is necessary, it in turn leads to the emergency of digital television Set Top Box (STB). Set Top Box is a kind of household electronic devices that can receive the digital TV siginal transmitted by digital television broadcasting system and makes some important processes to the signal and output an analog signal of audio and video which is sent to an analog TV to display.This project is based on the STx5105 platform which is a Digital TV Set Top Box solution provided by STMicroeletronics Inc.(ST). The core of the solution is two chips, STx5105 and STV0297. STV0297 as a front end chip, receives the digital TV signal, samples the TV signal from cable at an intermediate frequency, QAM demodulates, and then output the MPEG-II transport stream to the back end chip STx5105. STx5105 demultiplexes the transport stream, decodes the audio and video stream and output an analog AV signal.Application Software development is one of the important works in the design of Set Top Box. This paper mainly deals with the application software of STB including the research of Graphics User Interface,program tune and search and the Electronic Program Guide (EPG).The paper also presents the hardware architecture of STB and its main chips in brief, and introduces the system platform, ST20 debugging software environment and STLite/OS20 real-time operating system of ST incorporation. The paper is focused on the realization of application software and the work I did. Now, this software system has achieved the expected function and performance.
