The design and realization of hardware platform for deep space communication simulation are researched in this paper. First, the characteristic and several critical techniques such as image source encoding, channel error-correcting coding, modulation & demodulation and communication network in deep space communication are presented. Second, a framework of comprehensive deep space simulation platform which includes computer-based software simulation and hardware-based simulation is proposed. Third, a hardware simulation platform architecture suitable for the simulation of image source encoding, channel error-correcting coding, and modulation & demodulation modules is proposed.This platform, featured reconfigurable, is centered on ADSP-TS201 DSP processor and Virtex-II Pro FPGA and is arranged in a main board + daughter board architecture. The overall design and detailed realization methods, including the data path between the computer and hardware platform, link port interface IP between FPGA and DSP, are presented. Finally, the design and debug of the whole hardware simulation platform are finished.
