In the past half century, information technology, computer technology and network technology have dramatically impacted the water supply system in almost every aspect. Various information systems such as SCADA, EMS, and GIS have been constructed, which make the daily operation and enterprise management of water supply system much efficient. However, such problems as data un-sharable, lowly integration, and difficulty to extract characteristic in mass data are waiting to be solved. The data warehouse, OLAP and data mining technologies, which are based on data from above information systems, are good ways to solve these problems.Data warehouse is a subject oriented, integrated, non-volatile and time-variant collection of data, which contains consistent data used in enterprise decision support. OLAP is a kind of technology for data warehouse querying. Data mining is a data-analyzing and knowledge-acquiring procedure by use of artificial intelligence. This paper researches the application of data warehouse, OLAP and data mining techniques in water supply systems. After introducing the background of the study, the paper discusses the general structure of the data warehouse. To the problem of ineffective use of huge data in water supply system, a solution based on data warehouse is brought forward, which provides quick and effective data response for OLAP and data mining. On the base of demand analysis, the data mode of data warehouse is constructed according to three-class mode. Then the data from various databases of the enterprise is transferred into data warehouse by using DTS of SQL Server 2000, and the data warehouse environment is formed base on two subjects of production and management. Data cubes are formed in the uniform environment for analysis, on which the manager can analyze present data from different aspects by using MDX language and clairvoyant table. Finally, by applying Apriori algorithm of data mining technology in pipe maintenance data some useful rules are available. This paper presents a primary trial of data warehouse and data mining technologies in water supply system from many aspects, such as theories, system model and implement technique. The data warehouse constructed in this paper is just a beginning step of a system, which has supplied a feasible, practical, and analytic foundation for water supply enterprise. However, building a warehouse system is a long-term mission and furthermore time is limited, so many functions are not implemented yet and looking forward to being realized in the future.
