With the rapid development of basic information facilities of Chinese water supply industry, the development of information resource attracts more and more attentions. A large number of valuable data is accumulated for decision-making and controlling, which made rapid development for database technology. And the database management system has being widely used. However, more and more data have caused great difficulty to the data processing. How to deal with large quantity of information to do scientific analysis processing, and provide decision supports for decision maker timely become a new subject to water supply industry.Data Warehouse is the application-driven, which means that, on specific areas of application, it should customize their own data warehouse program. In the water supply enterprises, we use data warehouse technology in business data processing, and from it we extract a lot of useful information for effective decision-making support.At first, this paper presents the research purpose, significance and the current research of DW. Meanwhile it introduces the basic concepts of data warehouse and OLAP and the frame of system.In addition, the paper gives a detail analysis of the needs of water supply enterprises, based on which the function of the system was designed.Secondly, the paper focuses on the design of the system module, which is mainly composed of the following areas: concept model design, logic model design and physical model design. The main task of concept model design is to determine the subject of water enterprise data warehouse. In the process of designing logic model, the paper introduces the basic concept and the detail steps of dimensional data modeling in the background of water supply enterprises. According to the method of design data warehouse we establish a water industry data warehouse model combined star with the snowflake schema which is characterized by fact tables and dimension tables. Physical model designing is the realization of the concept model.At last, we discuss the practical application of ETL. The data warehouse plan which suitable for the characteristics come from the practice of project. A detailed implementation of data exhibition is given. And the practical applications of OLAP technology in the management of water supply enterprises have been analyzed.
