Since the 1970s, with ships becoming greater and higher speed, as well as the number of ships, the water area traffic density and the loadage of dangerous goods increasing continuously, the marine accidents happened a lot, which threatens the safety of ships badly. Traditional marine navigation equipments can't meet the need of increasingly dense water area traffic, and under these circumstances, AIS emerges as the times require. The main application field of AIS is the vessel collision and VTS. AIS have provided the unprecedented vessels tag information and high real time and accurate parameter of ships navigating. It can provide more information, better real time and stronger anti-jamming than radar can do, and it also has other virtues such as transmitting over obstacles. At present, AIS has been fixed in more and more ships as the supplement of radar, and it has been an important navigational aid for vessel collision and automaticaly information exchange. The thesis mainly includes the following parts: Chapter One and Chapter Two introduce the task background, the AIS system structure and its key technologies. Chapter Three first presents the hardware structure chart of AIS module, then gives the detailed hardware design based on the microprocessor S3C44B0X, which is of ARM7TDMI kernel, and introduced the circuit designs of main modules, and the devices to meet the need of system parameter have also been chosen out. Chapter Four introduces the designs of system software platform, including designing the bootloader program, transplanting real-time embedded operating systemμC/OS-Ⅱupon S3C44B0X, and the procedure of multi-task program base onμC/OS-Ⅱ. Chapter Five first introduces the development of hardware drivers, and then gives the design of AIS application base onμC/OS-Ⅱ4, and implements the functions of collecting and processing GPS data, transmitting AIS data according to SOTDMA protocol, etc. Chapter Six introduces the primary implement of GIS function using Visual C++ combined with MapX on the upper machine. In the end, summary is made and the further research direction is proposed.
