The Chinese newspaper supplement has developed for more than 100 years. As a special phenomenon in China's newspaper industry, the supplement has its unique advantages in refining the whole cultural grade and becomes an indispensable part of newspaper together with news, comment, and advertisement. After the ups and downs during a century development, the content and the form of supplement have changed a lot, and there are different understandings on the definition of the concept of supplement.As a main extension of supplement, literary supplement is often called "supplement in narrow sense". The medium characteristic and the cultural characteristic of literary supplement have been paid more attention. From cultural and media perspective, this paper analyzes and studies the famous literary supplement Pen Club, discloses the unique cultural quality of literary supplement combined with media by analyzing the content, and concludes the development rules and trends of literary supplement.Based on the above thought and purpose, the paper content is divided into four parts: the first part mainly defines the concept of supplement, reviews the development history of supplement, and describes briefly the development course of Wen Hui Daily Pen Club.The second and third part is the main body. In the second part, the unique cultural features of Pen Club and the high cultural qualities are generalized and induced respectively from era characteristics, critical awareness, academic atmosphere, and literary quality.
