As the quick development of the Geographical Information Science, the ways and means of acquiring spatial data, such as Digital Total Station data, GPS data, RS Image data and so on, are becoming smoothing and variety, especially in the terms of acquiring RS Image data. So not only more and more governments have made use of RS Images data in Fields of national defense, Land resource, environment, natural resource and so on, but also some big company, such as Google and Microsoft, have utilized these data to supply various map-navigation services. And as a result, the RS image data is becoming one of the important data sources of Geographical Information Science. However, the RS Image data has some typical characteristic, such as high quality, multi-source, multi-type, multi-resolution, which impose some challenge on the storage, management, and share of those data. As a result, the research and argumentation of RS Image database is a hot field in GIS.At first, on the base of the analysis of development of RS Image database, in order to effectively store, search, manage, and publish RS image data, issue that object-oriented relational database and XML DB is an effective and efficient way to unified store and manage RS images and metadata. At last, the RS Image database system, which is designed and implemented in this paper, demonstrates that object-oriented relational database and XML DB have several advantages in terms of storage, management, searches, and release of RS image data and metadata.In the RS Image database system, this paper implements the object-relational RS image storage model, image data compression, blocking, pyramid, spatial index and so on , which improve the storage and searches efficiency of image data. Besides, the Image metadata database, which is based on the XML DB technology, ensures the unification of storage and management of image data and metadata.Moreover, the release platform of image data, which is based on J2EE framework and Ajax, resolves the share problem of image data, which is caused by the big quantity of RS image data, and effectively implement the release and share of RS image.
