With the development of multimedia display and transmission technology,people enjoy more and more with audio-visual entertainment.Display technology has developed from the traditional analog TV to standard definition,high-definition and full HD.At the same time,display interface technology has developed from the AV cable,S-Video and VGA ports to the DVI interface.It experienced from analog to digital world,from parallel to serial interface,from low to high speed.HDMI is the latest high-definition multimedia interface,and it is instituted by Silicon Image and other six famous companies.Because of its wide bandwidth, small size,long transmission distance,supporting IP protection and other functions, it is keeping with the trend of technological development.HDMI was a huge success when it came out.More and more flat panel displays and high-definition televisions have HDMI interface.Now it becomes one of the standard interfaces and is successfully applied to wide areas.Since XILINX invented the first FPGA chip in the 1980s,FPGA is extensively applied to IC design,system control,video processing,communication systems and aerospace thanks to its flexibility on architecture and logic unit,high speed and convenience on programming.An HDMI receiver display platform is structured by using a high-performance FPGA chip EP2S180F1508C3 and Silicon Image's HDMI receiver chip.To meet the wide bandwidth for HDMI,a new type of DDR2 SDRAM is used as video data buffer.On the hardware board-level design,HDMI and DDR2 high-speed circuit is designed by a series of high-speed circuit design ways to avoid a signal of reflection, crosstalk or other undesirable phenomena.Based on the in-depth study on HDMI specification and DDR2 SDRAM timing specification,the top level is on the development platform of ALTERA.Furthermore the function modules are designed beneath the top level with QUARTUSâ…ˇ.At last,every function module is simulated successfully on Modelsim.The author's work and innovation include: 1.research in depth on the latest HDMI interface specification and the new DDR2 memory timing specification.2.the entire system structure is enormous,involving the relevant standards,many kinds of chips,using various software tools,drawing the schematic,PCB layout and simulating the programs.The author spent a lot of time and energy on these.3.initiate the FPGA to deal with HDMI signals and drive displays directly instead of the general ASIC scheme.4.use a series of special methods on high-speed circuits,especially on the DDR2 SDRAM circuit.That is a good attempt and has a high reference for relational design.
