As the time goes by, the chip technology changes greatly, particularly, the FPGA-based chip technology has became the programmable logic devices' first choice in the area of circuit design and its application. From aerospace technologies, medical equipments, household appliances to other consumer fields, FPGA is omnipresent, it has been integrated into the people's lives. Moreover, with the progress of microelectronics technologies, the performance of FPGA devices improves year by year, which makes FPGA gain more competitive than other similar devices. FPGA-based electronic design not only can meet the daily needs, but also can play important role in scientific research. Thus, it is a valuable and significant work to do some research and develop FPGA devices.The paper, firstly, looks back to the history of programmable logic device, as well as the function and the principle of FPGA, then, introduces the parameters of FPGA by the provider ALTERA. On this basis, it presents the Cyclone II chips and its configuration and so on.The paper introduces a hardware platform design implementation and application of FPGA-based network system. It introduces: The schematic design from the core FPGA chip to the network chip RTL8019AS, PS/2, Display (LED, LCD) , memory (SDRAM, FLASH) , and other peripherals, PCB rendering (methods and skills) , as well as the board debugging methods. This system provides the rich interface modules for man-machine interaction and communication which will be convenient for embedded systems design and development, thus, it has great flexibility in function extension.Besides this paper presents some of the conceptions and skills in FPGA engineering design and proposes understanding and thinking in how to establish a comprehensive system in the actual design; storage options, the ways of BUS design, as well as how to build a reduction of the TCP protocol. At the same time it gives some implement of periphery devices driver in VHDL. Finally, there is a summing-up.
