With the development of Virtual Reality (VR) Technology and the integration between VR and other computer technologies, Virtual roaming, the most common application of VR, becomes more and more real and important. However, while lots of attention is paid to 3D vision in the research of virtual roaming system, the studies of user interaction, especially multi-user interaction, are still too deficient. Based on a virtual roaming system supporting multi-user, this paper proposed a solution of the design and implementation of collaborative roaming in order to improve the interactivity of the whole system. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) A detailed specification of the requirements about collaborative roaming system is defined in this paper. According to this specification, our system is designed with a well-layered structure and appropriate technologies.(2) This paper solves three difficult data interaction points: to achieve the interaction among different dimensions through the communication between Ajax and Applet; to implement the real-time event notice mechanism based on Ajax and COMET; to tackle the problem of multi-user communication using concentrated directory structure.(3) A system prototype is implemented on the basis of above researches. The design of database structure and some key modules are presented in this paper.
