Immersive virtual roaming is an important application branch of virtual reality technology.It provides people with a realistic spatial experience.It includes two spaces: real space is a certain area in a room,and virtual space is a computer-generated three-dimensional virtual scene.Among them,planar mapping refers to mapping a path in a virtual space to a real space of a fixed size,and the user completes the traversal of the virtual space by walking along the path in the real space.Since the spatial range of the virtual world is unconstrained and the real space is affected by the actual environment,traditional redirected walking(RDW)uses translation,rotation,and curvature gain to provide a solution for small real spaces to roam a large virtual world.However,it is difficult for the traditional RDW to ensure that the user walks realistically and reduces the number of times the user collides with the real space boundary.This article proposes a redirected walking based on one-step-ahead strategy scheme(OSA-RDW)for the above problems.The traditional RDW focuses on exploring the limitations of the human perception mechanism in terms of perceived position,orientation,and motion,or on the physical space requirements of how the size and shape of the tracking space affect performance.Different from the above research,this paper is devoted to designing a novel turning algorithm based on RDW,and proposes a one-step-ahead strategy based on Voronoi navigation path and tracking space with boundary buffer area.The one-step-ahead strategy is to determine the user's upcoming movement according to the length of the next segment of the path,the end point and the turn of the adjacent path when mapping each segment of the virtual path,thereby better guiding the user to walk in real space.In real space,based on previous work,this paper maps a straight path into an arc,and designs a walking arc in the buffer area,a walking arc in the center area,and a walking arc in the transition between the two.Finally,the algorithm in this paper can convert partial collision resets into walking arcs in the buffer area according to the one-step-ahead strategy,reducing the visual interruption caused by reset operations during virtual roaming.Dynamic steering algorithm to improve the rigid operation brought about by traditional frozen steering.Finally,this paper implemented a virtual roaming system based on the method of this paper,elaborating the implementation of key points,displacement offsets,real-time direction and dynamic steering,and other technical difficulties,and verified the effectiveness of the method in simulation and real experiments.
