The vehicle monitoring system can regulate traffic, relieve congest, improve efficiency and road security. It has important value in reality. Vehicular-locating set in the traditional vehicle monitoring system is based on GPS / GSM. This solution has been used in domestic vehicle monitoring system. It has many defects, including high power consumption, instability, low accuracy, big error. And it can' t interconnect with the Internet. It is unable to meet the needs of practical application increasingly. So, the research and development of vehicular-locating set has great significance.On the basis of referring to a lot of literature in the interrelated research domain and generalizing predecessors' research work, according to the actual situation. We adopt the project of vehicular-locating set with the development of global position system, monolithic computer technology and GPRS technology, a design of vehicular-locating set is introduced. It takes low-power chip MSP430F449 as the core. GPS receiver chip M12 receives the information of the mobile target, including dynamic position (longitude and latitude), time and status. MSP430F449 chip acquire these information through one of the serial ports. After processing, It controls GPRS module MC39I through the other serial port, which can be connected to the Internet. Then this information can be sent to the Vehicle Monitoring Center whose IP address is designated. At the same time, monitoring center and car owners can also send the command message to vehicular-locating set. Thus it achieves the goal of vehicles' wireless monitoring.This paper has mainly completed the following work:First, the vehicle monitoring system as a whole structure is designed, which is based on the GPS / GPRS.Second, the design of the hardware and software is my major task. Among them, Hardware: the hardware platform has been designed, which is based on the processor chip MSP430F449, as well as its interface circuits connected to GPS receiver M12, GPRS module MC39I, MAX232, liquid crystal display module SED1335F, memory chip AT29C040 and so on. The power module which can supply many kinds of voltage is realized; Software: the main procedures have been written, which include serial port communication, transmitting the short message, liquid crystal displays. Connection with Internet has been realized, which is based on the GPRS principles and TCP / IP protocol. The data receiving and processing procedure has been debugged. The programming flow chart and parties of source code have been given.Finally, the paper has done a summary of the work, pointed out that the system's imperfections. The source of design errors has been analyzed, and the way to improve the performance has been put forward.
