The major problem in the current multimedia interaction design is the disconnect existing between designers' design intention and users' operation intention. Interaction design should pay attention to the study of users' behavior, and to consider what kind of communication method and environment will be willingly accepted by the users, from the viewpoint of goal-orientation. It should have strict investigations and studies in order to have a clear insight into users' intention, behavior and psychological habit, and then provide the developers with a realistic plan. This paper focuses on the study of the fundamental purposes and core principles of interaction design, mainly from the viewpoint of users' experience. It breaks through the discipline boundaries, and applies related concepts and principles in cognitive psychology to the research of the goal orientation and operative behavior of interaction design. The latter part of this paper gives a thorough and direct analysis of interaction design through the case studies of software, distance education,e-commerce,computer game and Flash animation. The final conclusion is that, one-sided emphasis on the artistic design or on the technical value of computer programming is biased in the future field of interaction design, because that will neglect the users' potential need, behavior and desire, and will result in the final failure of the products.
