Research On Personalized Information Service In Subject-Based Information Gateways

Study of information service is a hot and focal point in library and information areas at present.Along with the rising of personalized service, value-added service,information integration service which is oriented to users and so on,Subject-based Information Gateways(SBIGs) faces challenge and change.The technicality and strictness of SBIGs prevented people using it easily,how could it attract and pull in more and more users when it faces with low hit and use frequency?The answer is we can start with service,first make clear about the service status of SBIGs,then summaries a suit of mature theories which is useful for developing the services in SBIGs,and finally seek for a suitable road for sustainable development of SBIGs.This is also main task of this dissertation.The purpose of this study is after investigating the status quo of personalized information services in SBIGs at home and abroad,summarizes characters and problems of SBIGs services , and finds countermeasures corresponding to those problems and developing trends of SBIGs,in order to provide tutoring advices for SBIGs developing.The methods and means of this research are literature search,subject and statistical analysis,network investigation,case analysis,comparing and online experience etc.This dissertation discusses the following problems:1.The author introduces the origin, concepts and patterns of SBIGs,and clarifies three characteristics of SBIGs emphatically,which is relative to other internet organization modes.The three characteristics are resources quality-controlled,resources and services highly integrated,intelligent services.2.Investigation of 50 SBIGs in China has made,the author summarizes 5 common characteristics of their services,which are kinds of added-services running through the whole process of retrieval,reference services being convenient and quick,paying attention to open services and mutual services,used in other applications and offering personal information space service.3.Investigation of some famous SBIGs in overseas has made.Through comparing services in SBIGs of China and overseas,the paper concludes four policies to improve the abilities of personalized information services in SBIGs:the organization of SBIGs resources and services should embody"user-centered"idea,combining knowledge depository with SBIGs,using web2.0 technologies to develope personalized services in SBIGs,introduce personalized services into estimation of SBIGs.4. The paper discusses about the developing direction of SBIGs combined with practices. On one hand, SBIGs should offer knowledge services;on the other hand,we should push SBIGs service into kinds of scientific research and study platforms.5.Based on investigations and researches forward,the author constructs users'personal information space which is based on personal knowledge management,and this information space concludes four modules,which are modules of obtaining and accumulating of knowledges,processing and integrating knowledges,intercommunion and sharing of knowledges,innovating and appling of knowledges.Furthermore the paper discusses about technologies needed in this constuction.
