With the development of modernization production of large-scale structure welding pieces, many enterprises adopt CAD technology in product design, use advanced CNC equipment in processing. The welding technology for large structure weldment linking and processing which adopted traditional design methods will not satisfy enterprise's demand for it. So the use of computer-aided methods to improve the design standards of large-scale structure welding technology has become an inevitable trend. The paper is based on the characteristics of large-scale structure manufacturing welding, designed and developed a feature-based technology Distributed CAPP system that are applicable to the large-scale structure welding pieces. The paper included:1. Through the research of traditional structure weldment design / manufacturing process, the paper put forward CAD / CAPP / CAM information integration principle based on the feature modeling, and make research against the tenets of the corresponding principles of the key technology, including definition, information describe of non-rotational parts, feature mapping, secondary development principles of SolidWorks, and so on.2. The paper adopts scheduling thinking based on the features and operation and mutual coordination process line, through the analysis of the large structural weldment designing and manufacturing characteristics, built up the engineering procedure technological model so as to provides a series of systematic and effective theoretical principle and lay-out plan to realize system function.3. The paper carries out in-depth research into several key technology of CAPP system, realizes automatically extract of the feature information and process information manually input, the manual sheet metal nesting, Automatic welding assembly manual sorting and ranking functions.4. The paper adopts Visual Basic 6.0 and SolidWorks as development tools, completed the CAD data output interface, nesting process planning, welding assembly sequence planning, machining process planning, simulation and NC code output in the Distributed CAPP system of major structural welding pieces.
