Grid technology is one of the main development directions of information science, another significant technology advancement after the Internet, and key-technological field mainly supported by our country for medium-term and long-term development project of science and technology. Parallel computing is a technical approach to enhance the computing power of the computer system. It is an inevitable tendency to use grid technology to implement the large-scale and distributed parallel computing. With powerful function and flexible structure, the open-sourced Globus Toolkit (GT) has been applying into thousands of grid projects nowadays. MPICH-G2 resulted from MPICH and GT has provided grid not only with completely consistent parallel programming environment like MPICH, but also brand-new way for grid-based parallel computing. In this paper GT4 and MPICH are used together to design and implement a Grid Parallel Computing System (GPCS) for resource sharing and coordinated-task scheduling. The system encapsulates the services of accessing grid, submitting task, allocating task and executing task and so on, which can not only provide users with the interface to invoke easily, but also simplify the executing flow of the parallel computing task in the grid. The theories of grid, parallel computing, parallel computing and monitoring under grid environment are firstly discussed. Then GPCS and its implementation are introduced in detail, including some resolutions to the technical difficulties like isomerism platform interoperability, distributed CA establishment, single sign on,remote login and node dynamical-monitoring and so on. Finally the feasibility of GPCS is proved by a specific experiment and its parallel computing performance is also analyzed. The results indicate that grid-based parallel computing system which can fully use the idle computer hardware and open-sourced software resources and bring good economic efficiency to users is of great value both in scholarly research and application promotion.
