The frequency of Ku band can be from 12 to 18GHz, and the operating wavelength at atmosphere is about 2cm. It attracts much attention because frequency bandwidth is wide and the antenna with small aperture can be used to achieve narrow beamwidth. The transmitters at Ku band can be used in up-link of satellite communication stations to take the replace of TWTA, they also can be used in satellite televisions to get higher-quality images. They have very good prospects in both military and civilian markets. In this subject main circuits of Ku band solid-state amplifiers are studied, some experiments are carried out on single-stage amplifying circuits, cascade amplifying circuits and parallel amplifying circuits. This paper analyzes materials, applied devices, circuit design and combining efficiency, etc. and summarizes main features and difficulties in the design and manufacture of Ku band amplifiers to provide some technical reference to the further research.
