P-V-T (Pressure-Volume-Temperature) relationships of polymers, which are used by CAE software such as Moldflow or C-Mold to predict shrinkage or warpage behavior in plastic components and applied to set processing conditions to achieve optimum results, become increasingly important in material science. The data acquisition system of PVT on-line testing apparatus designed by YINGLAN Polymer Processing laboratory is introduced.The functions implemented by the design include data acquisition, data transmission, data storage and data display. It's divided into two parts: design of hardware and design of software. Data acquisition circuit design and selection of parameter measurement hardware and chips are major work of hardware design. Firmware design, application software design are major work of software design.In hardware design, appropriate sensor transmitter is selected to acquire Polymer PVT parameters, data acquisition card is designed based on singlechip such as AT89S51 and MAX156 chip, the communication between down termination and up machine is through the serial port. Firmware is used to configure and control the hardware, acquire the polymer PVT parameters and send data to a PC. Application software is developed based on VB6.0 to implement the data analysis, real-time digital display , curves display, data memory and to achieve the preservation of curve (P-V, P-T, T-V) mapping, storage and printing.This data acquisition system of polymer PVT testing apparatus is of high measurement accuracy, speed, real-time. Specially, application software is able to play the role of flexibility, which is more attuned to measure, analysis and process polymer PVT parameters. The parameters of Spencer and Tait equations can be determined by a large number of polymers test. Test results could be used to establish a database, to guide computer simulation with CAE software such as Moldflow/Mold and eventually to guide the injection molding process, to reduce defects and improve the quality of formed products...
