Development and use of IP cores have been the main design method for SoC design since the IC design enters into SoC design era. However, IC design in China develops latter than some other countries, it is significant for us to design the IP cores which belong to us.Microprocessor is one of the most important contemporary inventions. In the post-PC era,microprocessor has entered the community in all aspects of our life as an integral part of SoC,and has represented the IC design level of one country in a certain extent.Because Intel's x86 family of microprocessor is the most widely used, it will have a good prospect to design some products which are compatible with x86 microprocessor. At the same time, it has accumulated certain experience in the role.The main research in this thesis works on design and simulation of the HGD 8086 IP Core, including:Firstly, it considers the system architecture, system timing, as well as instruction settings of HGD 8086 IP core which is compatible with the standard 8086.Secondly, it adopts a number of methods to optimize the design in architecture and to improve the performance indicators.Thirdly, it completes the ALU module, the MUL module and the registers group module in RTL-level design using Verilog HDL language.Finally, it constructs the test platform to pass the full RTL functional simulation.
