IFLA-FRBR is the control focus of current international bibliography. It uses the methodof entity-property to establish a concept model for disclosing bibliographic structure andrelations. This model makes a challenge against the cataloguing theory which has followedfor more than a century, and the model has aroused strong reaction in the cataloguing field.Related research and application for FRBR have become one of the hottest issuesnowadays in cataloguing field. The essay introduces FRBR concept and its developing history,and then analyzes the cataloguing theory and practice on the basis of FRBR. It analyzes thebasic concept and essence of FRBR, possible impact on traditional cataloguing rules andpractice, as well as its own application value. This essay introduces and discusses FRBR fromthe aspects above, as a reference to domestic scholars.I have worked in the college library for many years when I have been engaging incataloguing bibliography. And I am very familiar with the metadata format such as CNMARC,USMARK,UNIMARK and so on. I have accumulated lots of practical experience. In addition, Ihave my own views and attitudes towards the final trends of metadata format and towards thedevelopment of information-resource descriptive rules.With the help of my own practice, I can understand and realize the description work ofinformation resource very well. Moreover, I have learned and researched some relatedliteratures, which make me study the description work of information resource from theperspective of theory, which will be conducive to the practical work of information resourcedescription.The essay is divided into five parts; each part respectively introduces the followingcontents:The first part (I) is about the deficiency of traditional cataloguing theory in the libraryand also about the analysis concept of functional requirement for bibliographic records(Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records,called FRBR).The second part (II) is about the new cataloguing theory for FRBR.The third part (III) is about new development RDA based on the importance rules AACRof FRBR traditional cataloguing theory.The forth part (IV) is about the FRBR impact on other cataloguing rules.The fifth part(V)is about specific implement under new cataloguing theory...
