Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) can improve the performance of passive filter and realize harmonics restraint and reactive power compensation in big power situation, so it has received much attention. Firstly, this article thoroughly analyzes each kind of HAPF system constitution and their good and bad points. Shunt Hybrid Active Power Filter (SHAPF) have been priority researched. The principle and speciality with different control methods is compared, the characteristic about SHAPF suppressing the resonance between passive filter and power grid is studied. Secondly, the article produces the main circuit and main parameter design method. In view of the stability of the dc bus capacitor voltage of SHAPF, a control method is produced. Otherwise, about the fundamental current augmenting the rating of Active Power Filter (APF), a novel shunt hybrid active power filter is researched. Finally, according to the research, the software and hardware of SHAPF experimental system is designed.
