With widespread application of power electronic technology in the life and in produces, these results in the serious harmonic pollution. Active power filter is considered as the effective method to harness the serious "power pollution". But the cost of APF is expensive, so this disadvantage restricts the application. Although the cost of PF is low, so this advantage can not harness harmonic pollution. In order to harness harmonic pollution and minimize the cost, a novel topology of shunt-hybrid active power filter is put forward. Using the respective merits of passive power filter and active power filter, Hybrid filter system can compensate the harmonic current quite ideally.The paper firstly analyzes the filter characteristic of PF, and deduces parameters of LC passive filter. Then it introduces working principle of hybrid active filter, and analyzes two topology of hybrid active filter, and draw aconclusion that shunt-hybrid active filter fits for compensating current type of harmonic sources. In the harmonic detection aspect, the paper has used the i_p,i_q detecting method on the basis of instantaneous reactive power theory. Animproved adaptive harmonic detecting algorithm is presented. Simulation results show that both the methods can meet the requirement. In the aspect of control strategy, the paper has used both hysteresis current control and triangular wave electric current comparison control methods by comparing lots of current compensation. Simulation results show both of methods can compensate harmonic current well.At last the paper validates the advantage of this new topology by both MATLAB and PSCAD computer software simulation, and the components of system are modeled and simulated. The simulation results indicate that the hybrid-shunt active filter have good compensating characteristic. At the same time, because the active power filter of hybrid doesn't stand fundamental voltage, the capacity of active power filter can be reduced, and production costs are reduced.
