The study of women and mass communication is a burgeoning interdisciplinary subject. It started from western feminist movements, and then entered the academic world of feminism study and finally spread to the field of communication. Studying mass communication through feminist lenses is a rising academic pulse. The topic of this paper is a focal issue in the area of feminist media study.Relying on a tempted survey and further analysis, this research paper centers on scanning the main problems lying in the ways how the mass media depicts women figures. In addition, the author tries to discover the deep-rooting causes of such problems. Eventually, this paper suggests some feasible solutions to these problems.The theoretical basis buttresses this paper to conduct practical survey with the qualitative approach. The positive actions that mass media has taken and the optimistic tendency are confirmed favorably by this paper. However, the author also unfolds a vivid picture in which women are ignored, stereotyped, and distorted by media tools. The author holds the viewpoint that women's living conditions have been presented against realities by mass media, and therefore it means that the mass media is discriminating women in some way. This paper makes great efforts to find out effective solutions to this long-term sensitive topic of humankind, and what it has reached in the end is instructive and valuable for further investigation in feminist communication study.
