In Chinese traditional society, women have never been spontaneously endowed with the equal right with men and the channels to express themselves. With the development of women's education in the late years of Qing Dynasty, the number of female intellectuals increased gradually and then more of them dedicated themselves to the newspapers, fighting for the freedom and equality. The Revolution of 1911 pulled down the Qing government; The May 4th Movement took the deep influence on the Chinese people; New Culture Movement creatd a better inner cultural environment for the Chinese women entering into the newspapers; and at the same time the development of the women's movements in the world brought the theory for Chinese women movement; all above made it that women publications turned on a boom. But later in Republic of China, Chinese women's movement got into a long time dreariness because of the battle royal, the conventional backwash and the policy enacted by President Yuan Shikai. Till the win of the National Revolution brought the hope of democracy for Chinese people, all kinds of women publications started to be publicated.When the ten years Civil War came, the battle between KMT and CPC in the cultural field decided the keynote of Chinese media. Besides the party newspapers, some commercial newspapers seized the opportunities to make reforms and obtained rapid improved. In the 1930s, Shen Bao made an all-round reform in Shanghai, and the three women supplements were publicated.In the foreword, the writer would analyzed the significance, research ideas and method of the thesis. Through reading and filing the papers and texts, firstly it will introduce the development and refom status of Shen Bao, and the whole situation of women publications; then the boom of women publications of Shanghai in the 1930s and the historical background of those three women supplements would be focused on, trying to deeply understand the reform of Shen Bao in the 1930s and describe the women cultural prospect of Shen Bao. The first chapter would display the outside environment of Chinese media. It refers to the political environment, economic situation and cultural background in the 1930s; then the development of the party newspapers and the national newspapers would be discussed respectively; Shanghai, as the economic and culture center, would be mentioned especially for the background of the reform of Shen Bao. Lastly, the writer would introduce Shi Liangcai the famous journalist, who made Shen Bao outstanding in the commercial newspapers, about his management and reform, and Shen Bao's tradition of women culture.From Chapter Two to Chapter Four, it would introduce and analyze the three women supplements of Shen Bao, according to the historical longitudinal perspective.Women's Life, the first women supplement of Shen Bao, focused on he introduction of women's life all around the world. The Chapter Two would display and analyze the content of it, and try to give the supplement a proper treatment,, standing on the process of the refrom in the 1930s.Women's Corner, the Chapater Three is the keystone of the whole text. It would introduce its whole situation, editors and writers, and would present that women intellectuals connected their lives with the society closely, and put attention to the working women in the country. The supplement also reveals its spirit of social service.Women's Special, the Chapter Four would study on the full situation of the supplement, including texts, editors, writers and its moderation characteristic, analyze its change of style as the nation was in danger for the Japanese's invasion.The conclusion of the thesis has two angles:first, to compare the three supplements so as to decode the reform of Shen Bao in the 1930s and the change of the commercial newspapers in the specific history period; second, to consider the three supplements as an epitome in order to interprete the Chinese women movement in the 1930s.
