With VC++ 6.0 and Pro/TOOLKIT(the secondary development package of Pro/Engineer) as the development tools, and Pro/Engineer Wildfire 2.0 as the support platform of the graphical software, the CAD system of the parametric deployment for the pipe junction sheet metal parts is developed, which achieves the parametric deployment of the sheet metal parts. During the process of the design of the system, the bend table is defined, the structure and the function of the system are analyzed and the system's workflow is also designed. Then, the library of templates of the sheet metal parts is built up, the parameters of its model are enacted and the relations between them are established. The main dialog box and the sub-dialog box are both built up, the former is used for choosing the category of the sheet metal parts and the latter is used for the input of the deployment parameters. The import and the display of the models, how to obtain, deliver and modify parameters, and how to regenerate the models are also accomplished. Finally, the registration information file is established which is needed before the running of the system.The nesting and the numerical control cutting simulation are discussed in this paper, with the CAD models of the parametric deployment as the foundation. The three modes of the integration of CAD and CAM are also compared. The basic process of the numerical programming of CAM is analyzed. Then, the auto-nesting for both of single and various shapes of the sheet metal parts is achieved and the nesting information is also abstracted. Finally, the establishment of the manufacturing models, the setting of the manufacturing environment and the numerical control cutting simulation are accomplished. Through the post processing, the NC program is output.
