Recently, the competition in market has been changing to reduce time-to-market and satisfy the personality demands of clients. In order to reduce the develoment costs, increase the product development speed, enterprises must reuse the existing resources farthest. But satisfying the personality demands means that the existing resources in company could not be reused completely. The effective method to solve the problem is to adopt the strategy of variant design. For realizing variant design of rotary simulator, this paper studies systematically on parametric deisgn technology and case-based design methodology. As a result, a case-based digital design system for rotary simulator is developed.Template structure in parametric construction methodology is studied. With the modularization method, the module-based information model of rotary simulator indexed by main parameters is proposed. This information model covers all the structure information of rotary simulator.The representation method of case in CBD system is analyzed and studied. For rotary simulator, the effective design case representation and storing method is proposed, storing by case template and design parameters.The case retrieval method and similarity algorithm is analyzed. Based on the issue description of rotary simulator, the simple method of similarity calculation between cases is proposed to increase the retrieval efficiency. The construction and management technology of design knowledge based on C/S mode is studied. Product database of rotary simulator is constructed by SQL Sever, with design case template of rotary simulator, to realize the succession and resuse of design knowledge of rotary simulator. Meanwhile, the data management in design process is also explored.With VC++6.0 and Pro/TOOLKIT, a case-based digital design system for rotary simulator which has friendly interface is developed to realize the rapid variant design of rotary simulator and provide a digital design platform for digital testing and validating of rotary simulator.
