In winter, the temperature is very low in the northern area of our country. The phenomenon of freezing commonly exists in the rivers, lakes, reservoir and canal. It brings great effect to the water conservancy and water-electricity project, and also effect shipping and regular offshore operation. The ice-flood disaster of Yellow River in winter threatens the people's lives and property who live nearby the number thousand kilometers freeze river. But the technology of river ice detecting is still in the unadvanced stage. There is no advanced detecting equipment and the great majority detecting jobs are completed by men. So the river ice detecting becomes a problem of the hydrology automation monitor and ice-flood disaster early warning system. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) is the late-model data transfer service in the existing GSM network. It supports the TCP/IP protocol, and can help the wireless consumer connect to Internet in a high speed. The GPRS technology gradually becomes the best choice for the wireless supervision and control system's design because of its large cover range, high data transmission rate, shot time delay of transfer and the little cost of communication.This paper mainly discusses the design and realization of river ice detecting system based on GPRS network. The automatic detecting system combine with the advanced wireless communication technology realize the automatic river ice detecting in a large area and the long-distance data transmission. It brings a new technical method of the river ice detecting for the northern area in our country, and provide a new guarantee for water conservancy project and people's lives and property.The main content of the article :1. It introduce the background of this subject, and analyze the present situation of the river ice detecting system. Bring forward the research content of this paper and discusses the purpose and meaning of this subject.2. According to the needs of apply in reality designs functions of this system and brings forward system design principle. Complete the main design of system, and introduce the operating principle.3. Introduce the terminal hardware design plan. It include brief introduction of ice thickness sensors, hardware design and functional analysis of ice thickness measuring and reporting instrument, introduce of GPRS communication principle and GPRS Modem.4. Discuss the terminal software design scheme. It consist of software designs process, realization of the I~2C bus protocol by software , the program of data collection and its improvements, the protocol introduction of GPRS Modem and the analysis of realization method, introduction of serial interrupt serve program5. Analyze the potential factors which may lead the MCU system to a unsteady status, and bring forward the reliable design method in hardware design and software.6. Introduce the design of management software including that the interface design, network communication program and the management of data.7. Bring forward the summary and give out a prospect for the development of the system. Finally introduce the improve scheme.
