With the acceleration of China's globalization, the communication of modern video image in China is increasingly influenced by the intense cultural exchanges around the world. After several years of development, the communication of video image in China falls into unprecedented disorders. Such upsurges as different show programs on TV, the adaptation of the "Red Classics" on TV, the prevalence of "KUSO" in the internet and comments on the industrialized movies burst out. These upsurges evoke disputes among which criticism gets the run upon support. Even, some people think these are vulgar. However, the understanding of truth is intimately related to the style of expression. Truth does not exist without any reason. From a global perspective, the author relates the modern video image in China to the postmodernist trend of thoughts in the world in an attempt to examine. the time from a more broad perspective and educe reasonable explanation to the disorders in the modern video image in China. The author starts at this point and afterwards makes case studies of four samples in the communication of video image in China in 2006 applying the characteristics of postmodernism as theoretical structure. Basing on such analyses, the author deems that the so-called "disorders" is exactly the vivid manifestation of the postmodernist characteristics of the communication of video image in China. Since diversity is one of the characteristics of postmodernism, discussion on the communication of video image in China is also expected to permit different perspectives and voices. The author holds that a right understanding of the characteristics of the communication of video image in China is conducive to both the production and theoretical study of the current image art in China. The first part is the introduction, introducing the research background, the aim and the method of the thesis. The second part is also the body of this thesis, including Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. Chapter 1, defining some key concepts very briefly and depicting the background and current situations of postmodernism in China, helps the thesis develop further.Chapter 2 is a detailed study of the complicated and confused postmodernism. It introduces the origin of postmodernism in the West, analyses the background and characteristics of the time when postmodernism occurs and depicts how it influences the theoretical circles and the style of literary writings in China. Then, the thesis makes an exploration of the characteristics of postmodernism, selecting three kinds of representative theory to give a detailed study. Finally, based on the theoretical studies, it concludes that the kind of thought of postmodernism which attaches importance on difference has good influence on the development of human kind.Chapter 3, taking some striking problems in the communication of modern video image in China as samples, analyses those matters in detail via some frequently-used methods of postmodernism. By introducing Derrida's "deconstruction", Lyotard's "absence of grand narration", Fredric Jameson's "pastiche" and Jean Baudrillard's "consumerism", and applying such concepts prevalent in postmodernism as "deconstruction, diffěrance, la dissemination, meta-narrative, pastiche, objects and consumption", this part tries to deconstruct "Crazy Stone", "A Chinese Odyssey", the prevalence of the adaptation of "Red Classics" on TV and "KUSO" in the internet, "Shopping Mall" and "Celebrity Imitated Show" and analyses the characteristics of postmodernism reflected by these modern media in China from perspectives of ideology, narrative skills and language styles. The last part, i.e. Chapter 4, is the conclusion of the thesis. Basing on the analyses above-mentioned, the author comes to the conclusion that the characteristics of postmodernism reflected by the communication of video image in China is the inevitable choice that we must confront in the globalization age; namely, postmodernism is not great scourges because it is both destructive and constructive. Hence, we should have a positive attitude towards its characteristics.
