Combat simulation is an effective means of research on warfare in peacetime. Undoubtedly, the value of it directly depends on the fidelity of the factors, which are simulated, such as military operations, equipments, systems and environments etc. As the running of simulation systems need to be initiated by scripts, a successful simulation can't be achieved without scripts of high quality. Military scenario and its offspring, simulation scenario, are main sources of scripts. Thus, it is important to entire simulation that how to explain military scenario with clarity and sufficiency, as well as how to describe it in a specified form which is helpful for initializing loading. This paper addresses problems on simulation scripts, analyzes the underlying deficiencies in reusability and interoperability, and proposes a specified description method for it.One of the aims that researches and practices on modeling and simulation have been always pursuing is to describe characteristics and essences of objects objectively and exactly. Being an advantageous tool for concept architecture study, ontology has attracted great interests in information domain. Therefore, concepts of ontology are explained, construction rules and developing method are discussed, and then ideology and methodology are introduced to construct scenario model in military domain. With the help of analysis of differences and relations between military scenario and simulation scenario, a method to transform formal ontology to XML Schema criterion is proposed using EATI method and MSDL Schema for reference, which lays the foundation for constructing authorized simulation model. Thus, consulting above-mentioned authorized simulation scenario model library, mapping and instantiation from simulation-oriented military scenario submitted by scenario task system to specified simulation scenario containing semantic information can be implemented.Next, the thesis analyses the interface specification of federates and initialization requirements of HLA-based simulation systems. The analysis result is used to carry out mapping from scenarios to scripts through correspondence between entities and federate objects, and between actions and federate interactions, according to the structure tables prescribed in HLA OMT, such as Object Class Structure Table and Interaction Class Structure Table. Additionally, some technologies involved in modeling, describing, parsing and transiting are also expatiated on.Ontology-based analysis method maintains consistency of simulation scripts with military scenarios at semantic level and provides reference for scenario models and HLA federate models. It helps a lot to promote reusability and interoperability of simulation systems. XML-based description method provides a highly automatic, universal, convincing means of exchange and storage for script data. It is the combination of the two that bases the method proposed to specify simulation scripts in this thesis.
