Earthquake disasters bring great suffering to human being and great loss to their properties. Earthquake rescue is a necessary means to decrease the loss. Virtual simulation for earthquake rescues can train the rescuers to improve their rescue skills, so it's useful and necessary. In this system, Scenario generation is very important, which generates a virtual earthquake disaster environment that can simulate the real environment. Thus, earthquake rescuers can immerse themselves in this environment and receive stimulations including seeing, hearing and tactility.Firstly, this paper analyzes the requirements of the virtual simulation system for earthquake rescues. Upon this analysis, a virtual simulation scenario generation system for earthquake rescues (ER-SGS) is proposed. This system can overcome the over-coupling problem between scenario and the particular simulation model, and has good re-usability.Secondly, in order to describe the virtual simulation scenario for earthquake rescues, this paper designs a virtual simulation scenario markup language for earthquake rescues (ER-SSML). According to the characteristics of earthquake rescues scenario, ER-SSML is developed based on XML. ER-SSML checks the scenario syntax rules by using the schema of XML. System can have access to scenario data dependent on scenario DB by using the middle layer provided by ER-SSML. The agility, dynamic reducing and reforming of scenario data are realized by using the Xquery standard and Xpath standard.Thirdly, in order to preview the three-dimensional scenes of wide FOV (field of view), the parallel and multipipe rendering is studied and implemented. This is a distributed system based on personal computer, and with low cost and good extendibility. Moreover, the strategies of viewport distribution and synchronization in the system are studied. Finally, based on the OGRE (O-O Graphics Rendering Engine) platform, an prototype of ER-SGS is implemented, and the method of creating virtual simulation scenarios is presented.ER-SGS has been used in the virtual simulation system for earthquake rescues which was developed by the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Science. Experimental results are excellent.
