Comparing with synchronous circuit, Asynchronous circuit has some advantages: better technology migration potential ,no clock skew,average case instead of worst-case performance,lower power and so on. Right now,the research on asynchronous circuit design technology is very hot. And many scholars have forecasted that asynchronous technology will take the place of synchronous technology and become the main design method in the industry in the future . Petri nets provide a rare combination of features that are essential in asynchronous circuit design, so it is convenient to describe and design asynchronous circuit system. Petri net can not only use as high degree behavior description of an asynchronous circuit system,but also as low degree structure description of system. STG (signal transition graphs)is a Petri net and it can be used to design asynchronous circuit,and it is also good on describing and modeling asynchronous circuit. STG can also represent the behavior of an asynchronous control circuit through signal transition in the graph. Petrify is a EDA tool for designing asynchronous circuit basing on Petri net,it has powerful function and convenient to manipulate.Firstly, this paper introduces and summarizes asynchronous circuit design technology: the definition, main circuit models and design methods of asynchronous circuit system. And, this paper is focus on studying the significance of Petri net in asynchronous circuit and designing asynchronous circuit based on STG and Petrify.
